Today we learned about the Constitution, what it stands for, and what it is. We began our day by making red, white and blue headbands! These not only helped us to celebrate our Constitution, but also was great practice with cutting and gluing. WPS had a short presentation in honor of the day, and we followed it up with an additional lesson and presentation in our class. To help us understand what is gained from the creation of such a document, we then developed our own! We brainstormed rights of all students at WPS, freedoms that we need to have in school, and rules that we should always follow. Students first brainstormed independently and made a list of their top 3 ideas. Then students worked in groups of 4 to share and combine their ideas. Lastly we came together as a class and wrote the actual document! Once we had the words just right, all students signed our class constitution, officially marking our promise. Take a look at our process!
