End of Week 1!

We have spent three days as a class in B106! I am excited to begin sharing our year with you on this blog. It is a fun way to follow up on the activities we do in class, and it provides you as parents with some topics to ask your child about when they come home! Feel free to expand upon our learning in your own way and to ask your child questions about what we have been up to.

Here are some bits and pieces of what we have done the past two days:
  • Morning Work - Students have been coming into the classroom each day, taking care of their belongings, and then sitting down to find morning work at their desks. This week their work has been basic math and literacy practice. Students have been learning how to utilize resources in the classroom and ask peers for help when they need it. It is great to see them working together, helping and listening!
  • Morning Meeting - We have been greeting each other each morning at this time, learning to make eye contact, listen to the person who is talking, make connections to others, and use strong voices for all to hear. This is how we will start our time together every day.
  • Calendar - We have been reviewing our months of the year, days of the week, date, weather, temperature, and number of days in school so far. As we move through the year we will remove some components and add others, as needed.
  • Classroom Scavenger Hunt - We hunted around the room for various items on our list, counted materials, and shared/compared our findings.
  • Read to Self - We began learning about what it means to read to self, and have been practicing to build our independent reading stamina. We will continue with this in the coming weeks, using books at your child's reading level.
  • Math About Me - Students have been working on a craft project about themselves related to math. We hope to hang these on display in the hallway once they are complete!
  • Brain Breaks - We have been participating in "brain breaks" or "motor breaks" quite often the last few days and will continue to do so! We take short breaks in between many activities to help us transition and keep our brains focused during our working times.
  • Specials - We had Library, Music and P.E. this week!

Reminder: I will not be including pictures of students in my posts until I have received completed technology permission slips. Once I have received some, I will add pictures that include those students. I will not be posting any pictures of students with unsigned, unwanted, or unreturned permission forms. I hope you understand the reason for this! Thank you!!
